What is Yoga?
Yoga is an Eastern tradition, dating back more than 5000 years, designed to support the body and mind throughout all stages of life. It combines exercises, known as asanas, breathing techniques called pranayama, and meditation in order to achieve the highest level of physical, mental and emotional health.
I’m a new student, is that okay?
Yes, Jane is very comfortable teaching to both beginning and experienced students.
Can I come to class if I can’t touch my toes?
Absolutely! You will never be made to feel that your abilities are inadequate in any way. Jane likes to say, “You start where you start.”
Is it just stretching exercises?
No, yoga incorporates strength building, flexibility and even some cardio work in each class.
What can yoga do for me?
The practice of yoga can increase your balance, flexibility, strength and powers of concentration. It can also reduce stress, help to increase your stamina, build muscle and bring the body and mind into a more perfect state of balance.
What should I bring?
You should bring your own yoga mat because it is more sanitary! Don’t worry if you forget yours-Jane always has a few extra!
What should I wear?
Please wear clothing in which you can comfortably bend over. Be prepared to remove your shoes and socks.
What other things do I need to consider?
If you eat before class, please make sure it is two hours or more before you come to practice. If you are prone to acid reflux, then please increase that time and make sure you don’t eat or drink anything that would exacerbate that condition, such as coffee.
Please arrive a few minutes early to your first class so that you have time for fill out some simple paperwork.
